This is the port at Butterworth... right before the useless highway...
This was taken at the padi field at Kampung Kuala Muda... which is right beside the border of Kedah and Penang. I got a friend from JB that thought these were lalang / coarse weeds... LOL
Beach at Kampung Kuala Muda... It's a fishing village, so we can't expect white fine sand here.
These were all taken last year... I still have a lot to catch up~! And still there's another before and after~!

Penang Char Koey Teow
Gotta make this post today. It's the leap year and today is February 29th which happens every 4 years. The weather is also quite nice... so I decided to post something up today. Another late post though...
FOOD~!! This time, it's no more about Raja Uda food. Everyone knows Penang is famous for its Char Koey Teow(CKT). There is no other place in M'sia other than Penang serve good CKT. Just look at the picture below....
This picture explain it all.... Just see the ridiculously oilly CKT with big prawns + pig fats + sotong + tau geh... OMG.... IT A KILLER MEAL~! I really missed this CKT a lot. This CKT is really addictive. I had them since I was in primary school. Believe me... I could take the CKT from this same stall for 3 months. Thats how much I love CKT. It was near my house last time. Now the stall has moved to a new place. I'll show the location below.
Another nice food available there is the Otak-otak. Just look at the juice... the texture... the aroma... the steam...
At above map, the red cross marks the location of the coffee shop. Its at Chai Leng Park. You can also get the detailed map from link below.

Although the food portion is small in Penang, but thats also the beauty of Penang food. Coz u can eat more of other nice food in Penang. Can't wait to go back again~!!!

Fish Ball Koey Teow : p=
Long overdue post... I was back from Penang almost a month d... Still got a few more food post to go~!! This is another nice place I had breakfast while I was in Butterworth, Penang. Name of the shop is 西刀林 or Sai Toh Lim. Koey Teow noodles with fishball is their specialty. Although thats their specialty, they have lots of variety to choose there.
First of all... they have this super tasty, fresh and crispy ROAST PORK~~! The skin was very crunchy~! The crunchy sound echoes through my mouth... I can't stop drooling here while writing up this entry now.... This is one hell of a good experience I have on Roast Pork.
They also serve fat crispy taugehs~! Just look at the fresh white taugeh sprinkled with fried garlic and onions above... Biting through the fibers of vegetable cannot be more interesting than this... Isn't it wonderful to be alive and eat all these good food~!
They serve Braised Chicken feet too. It would tasted better if they put in more hours in cooking the chicken feet. I just wasn't soft enough... the tendons are still hard... Maybe its a different kind of recipe... I would prefer chicken feet cooked long hours with every single part soft enough so that u just need to suck out all the meat and skin easily without using ur teeth at all. Maybe there are customer who prefer crunchy chicken feet tendons.... who knows....
Here comes the main dish~! Dry Koey Teow with Sai Toh Fishballs! Look at the amount of chili there... Just got to stir up the chili paste with all the fishball, fish cake, pork slices, fried garlic, taugeh, onion leaves and the black sauce b4 consuming it~! Wah lao eh... where can find such nice Dry Koey Teow in Singapore? Superb~! The texture of the Koey Teow... indescribable feeling... Although u can get the best koey teow at Ipoh... this is just so much better than koey teow from any other places I've been.
Fishball soup with Taiwan Style Dumplings is one of the dish you can get from the menu. Sorry to say... but I forgoten how the Dumpling taste like already.... lol... kept this post too long already... ~.~" I've already forgotten wat ingredient was stuffed inside the dumpling... SAD but true...
Click here to look at the map. Oh ya... this place is also located at Jalan Raja Uda. U can easily recognize the shop once u reach there... Its a corner unit by the way.
Once again.... HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008 EVERYONE~!!!!

Jalan Raja Uda Afternoon Hawker
Yay... food again. This is also at Raja Uda. Why again at Raja Uda u might ask... reason is its near to the place I stay and we don't really need to go far to get good food in Penang. Everywhere has good food.
Cendol~! This is the main reason I visit this hawker area. See the NATURAL green cendol? U can't find that anywhere in Singapore... at least I haven't find any myself... When I got the chance... I will show u all the artificial green of Cendol in Singapore...
This cendol stall was actually selling in Chai Leng Park last time. Luckily my dad found out that he moved his stall to Raja Uda. I just love the taste of the fresh coconut milk, the aroma of the brown sugar, the softness of the big red beans and of course the cendol with pandan leaf aroma~! The cendol is really excellent~!
My dad and mom shared the Ice Kacang. The ice kacang is nice too, but I still prefer CENDOL.
My dad went to order a bowl of Asam Laksa to share among ourselves. See the chili padi on top,and also the prawn sauce or har gou(虾膏)? Doesn't that makes u drool? lol... After all, Penang is famous for its Asam Laksa. Guess I didn't really taste Penang food if I didn't had any Asam Laksa~!
The Chili Padi really makes the Asam Laksa power leh~!! The sour and hot soup with mashed fish meat(ikan Kembong) ... the thick rice vermicelli(thick bihun)... sliced cucumber, vege, pineapple, lemon grass, onion and chili padi.... this ingredient packed Asam Laksa nearly blew my mind off~!
For detailed directions, kindly click ----->here.
Jalan Raja Uda is one really long street filled with lots of good food day and night. Its one nice place to get food. Not to mention there are different stalls day and night at certain areas~! This hawker area I went I located at the red X that I marked at the map above.
More Penang food on the next post. Stay tuned.

Kampung Benggali Hokkien Mee
Another food post~! This time is a coffee shop selling Hokkien Mee in the morning. After the night I had curry bihun at Jalan Raja Uda, we decided to have Hokkien Mee at Kampung Benggali today. Why is this place called Kampung Benggali? I have no idea... coz I hardly see any Benggali here... Maybe it was used to infest with Benggali ppl?
Aside from that, this coffee shop actually bring back lots of old memories for me. During primary school days, my dad would bring me and my sister to have breakfast here every single day. While we are there, we will always meet my dad's friends, golf friends or the company partners there.
Well, the coffee shop name is called Wah Tong Coffee Shop last time. This time when I was there... I saw the name has changed to Wah Tong Old-Town Kitchen or something... but they still have the same chinese name for the shop.. which is 华东福建面.
烧包, siew bao
1/2 烧包 lol...
The siew bao they make is really nice. The filling is just simple... its like char siew of char siew bao, it has plenty of sesame seed inside which make it has nice aroma for the filling when u are chewing it. The reason I say its simple is because it doesn't have green peas like the normal Seremban Siew Bao found. The taste is quite unique compared with Seremban Siew Bao. If you're not there early, the siew bao would have been sold out by 10am. Thats how good their Siew Bao is. Remember last time my dad used to buy about 20 of them and bring to office for his staff.
Before I go on with the hokkien mee, I would like to explain for those who don't know... Penang Hokkien mee is similar to Prawn Mee in other states. Its different from Fried Hokkien Mee.
Above is the nice old Dry Koey Teow I had almost everyday when I was a small kid... the taste never change~! See how short and fat the tau geh is~! haha... At one point last time... I everyday order dried koey teow... without all the ingredients but the koey teow (or its called koey teow kosong) ... how stupid was I to ignore the fish ball, sliced prawn, taugeh (bean sprout) and Fish Cake~!
Fish ball with the Hokkien Mee Soup
The reason for this fish ball soup is not for the fishball actually. I just wanna drink the soup since I orders dried koey teow without soup. The fishball taste just normal. It looks like those that we can get easily from the wet market.
4004, Jalan Kampung Bengalli, Butterworth Penang 12200 Malaysia
Above is the location of the coffee shop. Its marked in red X. The location marked in blue X is the Butterworth Police station. Its located at the central of Butterworth. Can come from Kulim-Butterworth Highway and its connected to Jalan Jeng Choon Thian in above map. Turn right into Jalan Bagan Luar, go straight and turn into Jalan Kampung Benggali.
Thats all for Penang Hokkien Mee~!

Curry Mee at Jalan Raja Uda, Penang
This is the first meal I had in Penang since Chinese New Year~! Woo hoo...
Although this is not my favourite curry mee stall, I still decided to have my dinner here with my mom and dad. This stall only operates at night~! If I remember correctly, they don't open on Mondays... or is it Sunday.... no idea.... forgoten... haha...
Just look at the curry.... The irresistible oily look with bihun, beancurd, taugeh, long beans, hardened pig blood, "sea ham"(dunno wat is the real name). Oh my god.... you can't get this curry me taste anywhere in Singapore~! Not in a million chance... This is heaven~!!
They actually got lots of side dishes for us to choose. They got stingray, Chicken Feet, Beef, Squid, Chicken.... etc available. It would be too much if we order all of them coz we got only 3 person here to finish up the food. My intention was to taste as many kind of food as possible but not over eating.... with some obvious reason.
Curry Stingray~! a bit not dark hor?
Curry Chicken and Chicken Feet... like cannot differentiate hor?? hehe
In the end, we selected Curry Stingray, Curry Chicken & Curry Chicken Feet. Everything was just so delicious. First time I came back this stall for about....2 years if I remembered correctly.
For those who like to try it out, this place is not really hard to find. Its just located at the end of Jalan Raja Uda at the south. The easy landmark would be Billion Supermarket (Is it still called Billion?), Chung Hwa (1st Branch) Primary School, and its near the cross road traffic lights. See the map above? Its located at the X marking. Remember, they only start selling at night. No point going there during the day okay~!
3 bowls of mee with Chicken, Chicken Feet, Ladies Finger & Stingray... u all guess how much lar.... it was just about RM15 leh... I think its still cheap, dun you think so?
Thats all for the first dinner I had in Penang since Chinese New Year.
