Shooting At Work

It's shooting photos. Not shooting other things. Some random shots I did when I'm working.


Tooks this photo while I was leaving the house heading to work. It was 15th day of Chinese New Year that night (Chap Goh Meh). Can't really compare with Munak's photo taken with his DSLR though. lol


Took another shot at the moon when I reach site. I was around 7.30am. The moon look so stunning at that moment. This is the best my T200 can do... hehe...


This is another random shot to test how far my camera can zoom.


This is the result of 5x optical zoom and additional 2x Digital Zoom. This is the same boat in the photo above at the center.


On the 12th Feb, I was at the shipyard to witness another ship launching ceremony. This is Project P2020 at PPL Shipyard in Singapore. The bulldozers in the picture are used to push the ship into the sea.


I couldn't resist myself taking a shot at all the foreign workers b4 the ship was launched. This is only about 10% of the people in the shipyard. Imagine when everyone of them gather up...




Finally the ship was successfully launch. My 2nd time witnessing ship launching. Click hereto see another ship launching ceremony I witnessed.


Took a few more shots when I was in the yard. This is P2019. Already delivered to the owner. Job completed.


Took another shot when I was above another rig. I love this shot.


This is P2017. They were testing the jack up system. The whole rig actually was jacked up to the highest point of the leg for a moment. But then I didn't have the time to take a shot.

Not So Sunday

I'm going to write 2 posts today. I'll write this frustrating one first.



There's nothing special about my Seiko watch here. It's there just to show that I have to work at this time on this very Sunday. Actually I could be home by 11am... but nooooo... The shipyard decided that they would like to perform bunkering on this ship for the very first time on this fine Sunday. *bunkering - The act or process of supplying a ship with fuel.*

The reason I have to be here is because my company is the sub-contractor doing the piping job for the shipyard. First time bunkering would require a representative from our side to ensure that there's no leakage at the pipelines and valves during the bunkering process. From the safety point of view, it's very dangerous if there's any leakage coz diesel is very flammable and we have a lot of hot work such as welding and gas cutting around the area.



As we need all hot work to be stopped b4 the bunkering process starts, we have to wait till 5pm when most contractors stop work after 4.30pm. Most workers are waiting to punch their time card and head home to rest already. I'm still on board the ship observing these people go home... T___________T



While waiting I took some pretty nice shots on board the ship. This is a crane barge doing some repair in the shipyard. Crane barge this big should be easily able to carry items as heavy as 500 tonnes.



Across the sea here we can see a land filled area here. I heard that there was nothing at all 9 years ago. Now there are warehouse, factories, workers dormitory and also shipyard built at that area. It's amazing that Singapore has done this much to expend their limited land in their country.

In the end, the bunkering process completed smoothly. 3000 liters of diesel was bunkered and there wasn't any sign of leakage. Left the shipyard around 6pm and I have to ferry the workers back to their domitory. My workers are sure damn lucky to have me as their driver to drive them back home. How I wish I have a driver to send me home too.

Witness a Ship Launching

This is the first time I witness a ship got pushed into the sea. To be honest... I got no idea how they move a ship as heavy as few thousand tons from the land to the sea.


Behind me is the ship that's going to be going into the sea for the first time.


Since the ship is so big, it would be damn impossible to use a crane to lift it up. Coz the ship would be much heavier than the crane. Above photo is one of the biggest ship crane in Singapore.


This shot is taken while the ship is still on land. It will be going into the sea moments later.


I was really surprise on how the ship is being pushed into the sea. At first, I tot the pillars below the ship will break then only the ship will start sliding little by little into the sea. I really tot it would take hours to move the ship into the sea. But I was so so wrong.... the ship slides into the sea with the pillar along, and it takes only seconds for the ship to move from the ground to the sea. I was really taken by surprise on how its being executed.


And now, the ship is on the sea already. Its a great experience for me. This shows that I still got a long way to go in ship building business.
